From what I’m hearing, no one wants to go back to working from the office full time. After 18 months of remote working, new routines have been established and the working public has adapted and are now much happier. Much of the stress of the work day has been eliminated.
Many companies, as well as the government, who own properties are starting to discuss plans to bring everyone back to work so they can justify the expense of their real estate. Why insist on going back to the status quo when the new way suits your work force better? The workers had to adapt instantly to a new way, why can’t the employers do the same now?
With 50% of the work force no longer being required to drive every day, CO2 emission targets have been instantly met! This is great news. With a happier and therefore healthier workforce, companies save in sick/stress leave payments. More good news. A happier and more relaxed work force is also more productive. Everyone wins! From my informal polling, no one wants to go in to work more than 2 days a week. So for households with two people working from home, they can choose different days to go into the office so they can maximize space and enjoy working alone.
And as far as the real estate goes, most businesses will still need to hold on to half of their office space. Why not sell the other half of your real estate holdings to willing developers (and permanently end the housing shortage) and reconfigure the remaining space to create a truly innovative, creative work space that suits your business. A space that inspires people! Here is a unique opportunity to think outside the box….
