There is a saying “variety is the spice of life”. What happened to that idea? When did we stop valuing uniqueness and differing opinions?
Intelligent, interesting people are the ones in the room who can hold your attention, not because they are experts on their topic of conversation but that they can grasp both sides of an issue and be comfortable with the contrast. They are willing to discuss wildly differing viewpoints without becoming attached to either. Without trying to change anyone’s mind.
The ego is always trying to change someone’s mind so it can be “right”. It needs constant validation. But someone else’s viewpoint is not a challenge to make you “wrong”, it is simply based on their experience. If you could put aside your ego and not worry about being “liked” or being “right” the REAL you could shine! If everyone thinks the same and has the same opinions, where is the spice?
How can you expand your horizons without being exposed to new ideas? How can you find your next favourite thing if you never try anything new? Let’s celebrate our individuality and honour our personal journeys. Let’s listen to others’ opinions and experiences. We are, all of us, the variety that creates the spice of life.
