We now live in a world where TRUTH is no longer an absolute. Truth is now considered to be a personal opinion. But truth and opinion are very different things. The dictionary defines a truth as something in accordance with fact or reality that can be established by proof. Something genuine, not counterfeit.
Opinion, on the other hand, is defined as a belief based on grounds short of proof. A view that is held as probable, what one thinks about something. Treating truth as an opinion conveniently gives you the option of ignoring it. Ignoring facts and reality is becoming very popular in today’s world. This allows certain players to create alternate realities, alternate world views that allow them to push their own, usually negative, agendas. By constantly repeating lies and catch phrases they effectively “brainwash” their listeners into believing them. The next, and more dangerous step, is to get their listeners to do their bidding.
Lies have become ubiquitous. Lies in advertising, lies on social media and especially lies in politics. Why are people so willing to be lied to? Why are they so willing to be told what to think? Being told what to do is something we must get used to as the price we pay to learn new skills. However, the unhindered use of our minds, our intellects, is one of the few true freedoms we have. It reminds me of a quote by Ghandi: “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” Indeed.
