Our biggest challenge in life is staying connected to our true selves. Being in alignment with who we really are and speaking from that place. Not from a place of ego or judgement but from a place of confidence in ourselves that we will speak our truth, ask for what we need and be heard.
But for most of us, we have lost touch with our true selves. Our connection to who we really are has been chipped away steadily since childhood. It all starts with comparison. The comparisons that are made between us and our siblings, our school mates, our friends and the comparisons we make ourselves between us and those we admire.
We have been constantly labelled by parents, teachers and friends. These labels may be positive or negative but we believe them. We see ourselves through others’ eyes and so lose sight of our truth. Very young children are very confident in themselves and see no limits in what they can do but adulthood feels like a very long lesson in getting back that confidence.
We are all multifaceted and have many unique talents and strengths in various arenas. It is only by asking ourselves specific questions that we can begin to find our way back: What do I most love to do, I can do it for long periods and remain engaged and excited? What are my unique talents, what special skills am I gifted at? If I were to positively describe myself, what words would I use?
The answers to these questions help point you towards your true self.
